Notice of Bereavement
Mr. John Riley
I
regret to inform you that John Riley, a long standing member of Fife and
Tayside Centre for over 41 years,
passed away on Friday 23 July 2010 after a short illness.
John, along with his wife Jean and her guide dog, Wilkie, were a
familiar sight on the rally field and had many friends in the Caravan
Club. John's funeral will be held on Saturday 31 July 2010 at Kirkcaldy
Crematorium at 10.15am to which all friends are invited.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Jean, and her family at this sad time.

Green Flag Caravan heads
North
The Green Flag /
Mayday Caravan heads north to Aberdeen after many years in the running,
The draw was held at the National Rally for the first time and was won
by Doug & Iris Clare from Aberdeen, North Scotland Centre members, They
thought that there leg was being pulled after the draw was made and
members from there own Scottish Division informed them of the news, they
just laughed it off until two members from the Green Flag stand visited
them and all became true, this is as far as we know is the first time
the caravan has been won by a member from North of the border and I’m
sure we all wish them the best in there new van.
While on the National Rally I would
like to congratulate Andrea Goodall, also a North Scotland member in
winning the ladies fun run at the National once again, and while keeping
it in the family her father Olly Turner has won the Scottish Golf
Competition for the 11th (yes eleventh) time, well done to
all who took part in events over the past month in keeping the Scottish
Division Top Trumps in competitions.
We look forward to seeing you all
at Sledfeld House next year to keep up the good work you do for Scottish
Division at the National Rally and lets hope the Caravan comes North of
the Border Again.

SPORTING
STARS

At the
Caravan Club National, held at weston Park.
Andrea Goodall (daughter of Joyce and Olly Turner) completed the fabulous
feat of recording her third win in a row in the ladies section of the
Fun Run, completing the 3 mile (approx) run in 17 minutes 10 sec.
We should perhaps mention at this point that Olly won the SCC Golf again
and so the Turner family completed a unique double on the sports
field.
Congratulations to them both.
More Photographs of Olly and Andrea can be found in the photo gallery
under Scottish Celebrations within the National Caravan Club photos.

Some photos from
Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull volcano
As ash from Iceland's
Eyjafjallajokull volcano continued to keep European airspace shut down
over the weekend, affecting millions of travelers around the world, some
government agencies and airlines clashed over the flight bans. Some
restricted airspace is now beginning to open up and some limited flights
are being allowed now as airlines are pushing for the ability to judge
safety conditions for themselves. The volcano continues to rumble and
hurl ash skyward, if at a slightly diminished rate now, as the
dispersing ash plume has dropped closer to the ground, and the World
Health Organization has issued a health warning to Europeans with
respiratory conditions. Collected here are some images from Iceland over
the past few days. (35

New
appointment at The Caravan Club
Nick
Lomas will succeed Trevor Watson as Director General of The Caravan Club
and will begin his new role on 4th May 2010.Lomas brings to this job a
breadth of relevant experience - having worked at The Club as Director
of Marketing since 2005
The Caravan Club is Europe's premier touring organisation representing
the interests of one million caravanners, motor caravanners and trailer
tenters. The Club operates the largest privately-owned network of
quality sites in the UK (around 3,000), and works with over 200 sites in
Europe.
Lomas comments, "I see this as one of the best jobs in caravanning, and
indeed the entire tourism industry. The Caravan Club is in its 103rd
year and has a strong ethos of representing its one million members and
providing them with quality products and services. I look forward to
working with Club Committees, staff, industry colleagues and
Parliamentarians to continue the work of The Club and drive forward this
much respected cornerstone of the British tourism industry."
Retiring Director General, Trevor Watson, comments, "The Caravan Club
has experienced significant growth in recent years and Nick is ideally
placed to build on the successes of The Club. I know Nick already has
the full support of The Club staff and Committee Members and I am sure
he will have the full support of everyone else in our industry. I hope
he finds his time as Director General as rewarding and enjoyable as I
have."
Grenville Chamberlain, Chairman of The Caravan Club who was responsible
for appointing Lomas comments, "Nick Lomas has extensive knowledge of
The Club and the tourism industry. I know he has the enthusiasm,
dedication and professionalism that is deserving of our organisation. I
would like to take this opportunity to thank Trevor Watson for his years
of service and dedication to The Club and to welcome Nick Lomas to his
new role."
Thanks to Mr. Ian Bennett
for this report.
