EAST CENTRE CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
Hi everyone. We are now back into the rallying season once again and your committee have worked hard to plan a very varied programme of rallies and events for you to choose from in 2019.
However, sadly, we still haven’t had any members coming forward to offer their help to keep the East Centre going into 2020. I explained in my last message, that if we didn’t get any new members willing to put themselves forward and join our committee, then the East centre woud have to perhaps amalgamate, or worse still, go back into hibernation.
This would be very sad, as the East Centre is the oldest centre in Scotland and also has the largest number of registered members, at over 1400. Surely someone out there has a little time to spare, to come along, or just give me a call for a chat about rallying and what being a committee member would involve.
We are not asking for a lot of your time, simply to attend a committee meeting approx. once a month and help with the running of what, after all, is your centre. The centre you chose to register with and I am sure you do not want to see it folding.
My husband Iain and I have been members of the East Centre since 1985 and have travelled all over Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales and also many countries abroad too. We have made lots of friends along the way and it has been a great experience. Why don’t you give rallying a try??
Over the past 4 years, your current committee have tried many different things, to attract more members to come along, including 4-day rallies, instead of just the normal 2 days.
It is a way of getting out and about and enjoying your caravan more and meeting up with many like-minded people.
In the meantime, I am now going to initiate discussions re amalgamation, as agreed by the centre members, at our AGM in September 2018.
However, it is not too late for you to come forward and help your centre. Please give it some serious consideration.
THE EAST CENTRE NEEDS YOU!!
Thank you all.
Kind regards,
Margaret J Devine.

East of Scotland Centre.

Vintage, Veteran, Classic Vehicle Show Rally
SCC East Centre - Selkirk - Rally Report
Firstly, I think it would be fair to explain why we attended this marvellous rally.
Lesley, has relatives living in Scotland, her Father being of Scottish descent.
We have been promising for far too long to visit them and decided to do so this September.
We decided a stop off on the way was in order, so, after some internet searching we came across this rally and decided to visit.
The arrival at the Sunderland Hall site yet again proved that Scotland has some beautiful scenery, particularly if the sun is shining.
The welcome at the main site entrance was particularly friendly as was the welcome by the rally Marshals. In fact we mentioned more than once during our stay how friendly everyone on site
was.
The Saturday evening Hog Roast and live entertainment was excellent.
The DIY barbeque on the Sunday afternoon was going well until the weather tried to intervene, but, a few hardy people stayed and carried on. Those remaining were kindly invited into Ian and Marion’s
awning, where we had a few hours of chat and the odd drink.
Overall the weather, with occasional showers did not manage to spoil the rally or the Vintage Show.
The Vintage Show was truly amazing for anyone with a vintage vehicle or a mechanical interest. Around 900 exhibits from small to huge, you just had to marvel at the quality of the exhibits and the enthusiasm of the exhibitors.
We really enjoyed our stay with you.
Thank you to the Team, Stuart, Janice, Ian, Marion & Bob
Kind Regards
Nigel and Lesley

Selkirk – East Centre 15th – 18th September 2017
Vintage, Veteran, Classic Vehicle Show Rally
The Vintage Veteran & Classic Vehicle Show Rally at Selkirk 15th-18th Sept. The rally was attended by 17 vans with 3 visiting from Durham Centre. On the whole the weather was not bad but unfortunately the rain came on just after the start of the BBQ and most beat a hasty retreat.
The centre sponsor one of the competition categories "Working Units" and donated a shield which is presented to the winner in that category each year. Hence the photos of our chairman Margaret presenting the shield to the winner Dennis Andrews

Roslin – East Centre 23rd – 27th March 2017
Roslin Revisted Rally
The East Centre held their “Roslin Re-Visited Rally” at Slatebarns Caravan Site from Thursday 23rd March to Monday 27th with 21 vans I attendance. It was 10 years since we last rallied there, traffic going to the renovated Roslin Chapel exacerbated by the book and film The Da Vince Code had made getting in and out very difficult and consequently the site had been closed for seven years. The traffic has now died down and better parking and a bus turning area have made access much easier. As the accompanying pictures show the site is very attractive and well worth a return visit. The terrific weather over the weekend – wall to wall sunshine - showed off the site in all its glory.
On the Saturday evening many of us dined very well at the Original Hotel. Thanks go to Helen & John Bullions for a wonderful week-end.

Coldingham – East Centre 3rd – 7th November 2016
Winter Warmer Rally
The East Centre held a rally at Crosslaw Caravan Park from the 3rd to 7th November. The weather was mostly cold and very windy but there were some nice long sunny intervals on the Friday which allowed members to get out and about. We were entertained on Saturday evening by Willy Smith, and his music which had many up on their feet dancing - hopefully working off the supper of chip butties and other goodies. On Sunday night Iain Devine had us baffled with his lateral thinking, and other quizzes. (I think I will never be able to go and lie down in a darkened room without thinking which switches I should have turned on). These events took place in the site club room which was ideal for the events and the staff went out of their way to make us at home and be helpful with the food preparation and clearing up. The site coped well with the weather as we were all on serviced pitches with hard standings. Thanks go to the rally team lead by Margaret Devine for a memorable rally.
